Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about lyricspin. Can't find your answer? Email us.
Is lyricspin free to use?
Yes, completely free. No subscription, no trial period, no hidden fees, and no account required. Open the app and start listening.
Do I need to create an account?
No account, no sign-up, no email address required. There is no login of any kind — just open the app and tap Listen.
How does lyricspin identify songs?
lyricspin uses your device's microphone to capture a short audio sample — up to 10 seconds — and sends it to AudD, a music recognition service, which matches it against millions of tracks. The whole process typically takes a few seconds. No audio is stored; the sample is used only for identification and then discarded.
Does it work with any turntable or record player?
Yes. lyricspin works with any audio source your phone can hear — vintage turntables, modern belt-drive or direct-drive decks, portable record players, or even a friend's hi-fi across the room. As long as the music is playing at a reasonable volume and the room isn't too noisy, it should identify the track.
Can I use it with sources other than vinyl?
Yes — lyricspin identifies any music it can hear through the microphone, whether it's coming from a turntable, a Bluetooth speaker, a hi-fi stereo, a cassette deck, or even a TV. It's designed with vinyl lovers in mind, but it works anywhere there's music playing.
How does the synchronized lyrics feature work?
Once a song is identified, lyricspin fetches time-coded lyrics from LRCLib, an open lyrics database. The words scroll line by line in sync with the music — similar to karaoke. If synchronized lyrics aren't available for a particular track, plain-text lyrics are displayed instead.
Can I use lyricspin for karaoke practice?
Absolutely — it's one of the best use cases. Spin the record, tap Listen, and the lyrics scroll in real time as the music plays. It works great for home karaoke nights, learning the words to a new favourite, or practicing before a performance. From Fleetwood Mac to Avenged Sevenfold, if it's in the crate you're ready to sing.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. lyricspin runs in any modern browser on both mobile and desktop — no app download required. On mobile it requests microphone access through the browser. For the best experience, leave your device near the speaker when tapping Listen.
What if it doesn't recognise my song?
Recognition depends on audio quality and whether the track is in AudD's database. Background noise, very low volume, or obscure pressings can sometimes prevent a match. If it doesn't identify automatically, tap "Search lyrics manually," enter the artist name and song title, and lyricspin will fetch the lyrics directly.
Why did it identify the wrong song?
This can happen with songs that sound similar, live versions, alternate takes, or bootleg pressings. Tap "Wrong song?" on the result card and use the manual search to correct it.
Does lyricspin store or record my audio?
No. The audio sample captured by your microphone is sent directly to the AudD recognition service for matching and is not stored by lyricspin. See our Privacy Policy for full details on how data is handled.
What genres and artists does it support?
lyricspin can identify any track in AudD's database, which covers tens of millions of songs across rock, pop, jazz, classical, hip-hop, metal, country, punk, and more. Lyrics availability depends on LRCLib's catalog, which is strongest for popular, classic rock, pop, and metal recordings.
What are the ticket and merchandise links?
When a song is identified, lyricspin shows links to buy concert tickets (via SeatGeek) and to browse vinyl or merchandise (via Amazon). These are affiliate links — if you make a purchase, lyricspin may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only show these links to help you go deeper into the music you love.
